This transformative initiative empowers emerging leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the common good.
Through this program, the Obama Foundation aims to inspire, empower, and connect a diverse regional cohort of changemakers, equipping them to accelerate positive, lasting change in their communities, regions, and across the globe.
What Is the Leaders Program?
Launched in Africa in 2018 and since expanded to Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States, the Leaders Program builds a network of innovative, values-driven changemakers. Participants—aged 24 to 45—represent a wide array of sectors, fostering inclusive, thriving societies where everyone belongs and can participate.
Inspired by President Obama’s leadership approach, the program helps participants:
Develop a values-based foundation for sustained leadership.
Build relationships to drive lasting, inclusive change.
Tackle systemic challenges in their communities.
Program Benefits:
Participants engage in dynamic activities, including:
Weekly Virtual Video Calls: Interactive sessions featuring expert conversations, leadership frameworks, skill-building, and small-group discussions.
Monthly Community Groups: Peer learning groups foster deep connections and collaborative problem-solving.
Individualized Leadership Coaching: Personalized coaching sessions to help participants clarify goals, unlock potential, and achieve development objectives.
Upon completion, participants join the Obama Leadership Network: a global alumni community of over 1,200 changemakers.
Regional Programs:
Africa
This program builds a network of leaders committed to driving meaningful change across the continent.
Asia-Pacific
Emerging changemakers from the Asia-Pacific region join a thriving community of regional and global leaders.
Europe
A six-month leadership journey that connects up to 35 participants annually, focusing on shared values and regional transformation.
United States
A non-residential six-month program engaging leaders from across the country in critical discussions and action plans.

Who Should Apply?
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a citizen, permanent resident, or have resided in an African country or territory for at least five years.
Focus on creating positive change in Africa or its local communities.
Have at least three years of relevant leadership experience.
Be proficient in English and between 24–45 years of age as of September 1, 2025.
Program Details:
Duration: September 2025 – May 2026 (with breaks).
Commitment: Participants must refrain from participating in electoral campaigns during the program.
Location: Virtual, with potential for U.S.-based in-person programming.
